Description
Sala’s Camp is a gold-rated eco-lodge, signifying that it operates under the strictest guidelines of sustainability and continually strives to leave as minimal an impact on its surroundings as possible. Sala’s camp is located at the convergence of the Sand and Keekorok Rivers, in the heart of the Masai Mara. It is perfectly situated as the first Mara property to welcome the annual wildebeest migration, from July to September, when over a million gnus pour into the Masai Mara from the Serengeti. Activities during this experience are, game drives in one of the world’s most prolific wildlife areas. The Masai Mara is home to Africa’s ‘Big Five’, as well as the world-famous annual migration of wildebeest. Stargazing is superb here. Admire the birdlife on nature walks within the camp or play volleyball in the Sand River (seasonal). Sala’s Camp received a major makeover in 2016 and now boasts seven large, new tents and can accommodate up to 22 people. There are three superior tents, two honeymoon tents and two family tents. Bathrooms have hot rainfall showers and flushing toilets. Some of the tents have solar-heated water while others use wood-fired ‘Kuni boosters’. Electricity is solar-powered, with a generator for backup. There are plunge pools in all tents, Wi-Fi in the tents only and in-room beauticians offering a variety of treatments. All rooms have showers and some have baths. There is a safe in every tent. There are handmade Kenyan toiletries, dressing gowns and flip flops. Also, laundry service is included; due to cultural reasons, washing the powder is provided for ladies to wash their underwear. Guests are given a "Gym In A Bag": each bag contains a yoga mat, skipping rope and a post-safari stretch card. A fully equipped gym is available as well. Children are welcome and under-threes stay free. Extra beds are available on request and family tents have additional space. The local Maasai are keen to teach their traditions and
will show children how to throw a ‘rungu’, tie a ‘shuka’ and make a bow & arrow.
