Description

The art of doing nothing and simplicity at its finest.

The Arctic Hideaway is a place where you can rent a sleeping room and get access to a monofunctional series of houses. The Arctic Hideaway team wanted to create the world’s most beautiful working space, but it seems that they also have created a very nice village to rest and reset.

This place is very minimal. On the island, there are no shops and no cars. Here there is no stress and no dangerous animals.

is no stress and no dangerous animals.

The Arctic Hideaway team bought their first estate in the Arctic Archipelago in 2004. They dug with spoons and forks the first years before they met Yashar & Andreas in 2013, architects from TYIN, who immediately introduced the team to their professor and mentor Sami Rintala from RintalaEggertson Architecture. Suddenly the team involved the two most published architectural offices in Norway.

After ideas were thrown forth and back for some time, the Arctic Hideaway team began a workshop for architecture students in August 2014. After eight workshops with students from all over the world, and two years of building processes led by multi-skilled architects and designers Andrew Devine & Ruben Stranger, and actually no carpenters, the Arctic Hideaway now has ten small houses in the little village. Let’s see if it stops there!

To Get Here

Public speed ferries run from the port in Bodø, just a 12-minute walk from the airport. There is an average of 2 daily departures to and from the island. The Arctic Hideaway team will assist you with choosing the right boats, or even charter a private boat for you. Choose between rib & closed boat. (Targa).

Caretakers

Caretakers of Arctic Hideaway meet you at the dock upon your arrival to Fleinvaer. These wonderful people make sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. They are here to provide guidance on the facilities, and to guide you on how to live in and around the ten-house village for the duration of your time on the island.

Eat & Drink

A self-service breakfast is provided by the caretakers. All other meals except for hotel guests are self-catering, with the ingredients included in the cost of accommodation. The Arctic Hideaway provides a well-stocked, local-focused kitchen for the guests, and the availability of fresh ingredients will vary seasonally. If you have booked the whole hideaway, the team can also book a chef who is an expert on local food for you. (Price after agreement)

If you have any special requests or specific dietary needs please let the Arctic Hideaway team know in advance when you make your booking. For lunch and dinner, there is an open pantry that offers ingredients for lunches and a variation of dinners.
