Skrolsvik is located in the southernmost part of Senja. Researches have been made in the area, which shows that people have lived here all the way back to the Stone Age and Iron Age. An example of this is the many burial mounds that lie on top of small rock ridges with a good view of the fjord and clearly visible to those who sailed past.
Modern activities in Skrolsvik with the reception and processing of fish began in the 1860s. The old fish processing factory, the old shop, the owner’s residence, and the baiting house were built sometime in the 1870s.
Skrolsvik became a center for the smaller habited islands in Andfjorden around the turn of the last century. Here they could sell the fish, buy necessities of life and bake bread.
Bua is originally an old baiting house built in the 1870s. It was used for baiting fishing equipment as well as accommodation for fishermen. As it is a building with historical value, much of the original building stock is preserved in its original condition to this day. Bua is located in the center of Skrolsvik Harbor with the old fish farm, now the Halibut Museum, just at the south of the building, and former Krambu, an old shop, and the large owner’s residence just across the road.
The building was renovated in 2016 and as an accommodation it maintains a high standard.
Skrolsvik is the perfect starting point for trips and experiences in nature both at sea and on land. There are fantastic hiking possibilities with view peaks at varying degrees of difficulty. Several fishing lakes can be found in the mountains. Sea safari with bird cliffs, midnight sun, and visits to historic islands in the Andfjord are all possible.
