Description

Pure, untamed nature, unbridled space, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow & home to one of the world’s most powerful geysers.

Iceland’s main attraction is its pure and untouched nature, and Hotel Geysir is close to one of Iceland’s major jewels. As natural resources are limited and the ability of the environment to sustain vital processes can be easily disrupted, Hotel Geysir has adopted a sustainable strategy where they consider and combine the needs of nature and of their guests. Hotel Geysir focuses on protecting natural resources with responsible use of energy, water, and materials while ensuring first-class service to their guests.

The trademark of Iceland, the great Geysir, gave the hotel its name, and Geysir is situated right outside the front door of the hotel. Haukadalur is one of Iceland’s most famous historical sites, both ancient and today. Sigurdur Greipsson, from Haukadalur, founded a sports school in his father’s inheritance at Haukadalur, which he operated with his wife Sigrun Bjarnadóttir for a period of forty-three years. Today Hotel Geysir is run by Sigurdur Greipsson’s daughter-in-law, Sigridur Vilhjálmsdóttur along with her children, Mábil and Sigurdur.

The Hotel Geysir professionals want you to enjoy our high level of service, comfort, and hospitality during your stay. Their team is here to look after your every need, so please relax and allow yourself to be indulged. There are many amenities for you to enjoy whilst staying at Hotel Geysir.

A New Building

Hotel Geysir is the newest addition to the family-run hotel on the doorstep of the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur in the historic Haukadalur Valley. One of the greatest natural attractions of Iceland is the great Geysir, which the hotel is named after, and it is an indescribable spectacle.

The new building connects the existing services in the area and is designed with the aim to reflect nature through the choice of materials blending into the nearest surroundings.

Hotel Geysir has 77 rooms and 6 suites.

The Design

The hotel was designed to harmoniously blend the building with the surrounding environment through the use of materials that reflect the surroundings and the architectural design of the building. The hotel’s rooms and suites are bright and light and all have views of the stunning scenery. Opt for a room with a large window where you can sit in and watch the world go by or choose one with large opening windows and a balcony.

There are large windows throughout the hotel so you can admire the landscape including the magnificent Geysir and hot spring area while passing through.

The dining rooms are on the first and second floor and can open up into the hotel’s garden. For a special occasion, the hotel recommends private dining as you will have access to the rooftop terrace which has an incredible 360-degree panorama of the surroundings and a herb garden.

The Geysers

This landmark of Iceland is a spectacular natural phenomenon beyond description. The geothermal field surrounding the Great Geyser is the definitive geyser, having given its name to the geological phenomena. Strokkur, another famous geyser located in the hot spring area, gives a performance every few minutes, shooting a tower of water and steam 30 meters into the air.

There are other attractions apart from the magnificent geysers. For example, Blesi, a hot spring with water the color of turquoise delights the senses.

The area is famous for the geothermal hot springs and geysers which the hotel is in perfect close proximity to and can be seen in awe during the day and night. If you are lucky enough, at night you will witness the bubbling hot springs contrasting with the Northern Lights (September to March). There’s more than just the geothermal activities in the area – discover the surroundings with a tour on ATVs, horseback, or on foot.

The Area

The Geysir-Center, which is directly opposite the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur, consists of a whole building complex with restaurants, souvenir shops, outdoor and clothing stores, Geysir design stores, snack shop, and a camping area. Also, there are endless activities all around the area: golf course, fishing, hiking, outdoor paradise the Haukadalur woods, horse rentals, Langjökull glacier tours, river rafting, and river jet. Therefore it is perfect for day trips because of many different possibilities of entertainment.
